SERVICES

The Financial Clinic, a nonprofit financial development organization, helps working poor families caught in the wage gap – those "too rich" for public assistance but "too poor" to be self-sufficient – achieve financial stability by providing legal support and financial counseling. The Clinic's financial development improves economic security by providing:

  • Resolution of financial crises with legal and advocacy services;
  • Full-spectrum financial "tune-ups";
  • Financial coaching and action plans that reduce debt, improve credit, build assets and realize financial goals;
  • Year-round tax advice and preparation services;
  • Connection to community-based financial products and services.

MISSION

Our mission is to improve low income people's economic security by helping them make ends meet. Our vision is to achieve economic justice for neighborhoods disenfranchised by policies and practices that hinder financial stability and growth.

NEED

One in four New Yorkers do not have enough income and earnings to meet a basic family budget. They cannot keep up with their bills, repay student loans, or save for emergencies. These families are squeezed by high indebtedness, lack of a safety net, stagnant wage growth, higher prices that often predominate in urban areas, and a scarcity of formal financial institutions, which allows fringe and predatory services to thrive.
