Here are just a few of The Financial Clinic's milestones in the first five years (2006-2011):
- Returns of over $7 million to over 5,000 tax filers through refunds and credits in three tax seasons
- Savings of over $300,000 for Financial Clinic customers through financial planning
- Settlements of almost $1 million in debt obligations for Financial Clinic customers
- Over $1,900,000 total cash returned to customers through financial development services
- Trained over 600 volunteers and staff across 35 New York City-based and national nonprofits organizations.
We Coined "Financial Development"
We use the term "financial development" to reference the full range of educational, coaching, and legal services targeted to improve working poor families' financial security.
The concept is distinct from "financial literacy" because, with financial development, we hold ourselves accountable to our outcomes.
Our work also includes more than "assets building." While financial goals are a critical driver for our customers' accomplishments, financial development includes the "on ramp" services-coaching, advocacy and legal assistance that make financial mobility a possibility.
